AFL 3: Ratoath recover with a win

March 04, 2010
Ratoath 2-9
Longwood 1- 6

After the disappointing match with Gaeil Colmcille in the first round, when the referee blew up seven minutes too early, Ratoath lifted their game superbly at home to record a merited victory over Longwood.

Longwood came into this game as overwhelming favourites due to the fact that they were beaten recently in the All-Ireland Semi-Final of the Junior Club tournament and were also last years Meath Junior champions.

Longwood struck early and scored a goal in the 3rd minute. Ratoath stuck to their task and at half time the score stood Ratoath 2-4 to 1-4.

Longwood lost a player who was sent off for a second yellow card. A feature of the first half was the fast movement of the ball by Ratoath and the sharp finishing by the young Ratoath forwards. Paddy Haslam was really showing up well and scored two cracking goals after great support play.

Scorers for Ratoath: Paddy Haslam 2-2, Eoghan McMahon 0-4, Graham Jordan 0-2, Cian O'Brien 0-1.
