Na Fianna overcame a gallant Simonstown side in this tense JCFC quarter final played on a pristine Longwood pitch. Na Fianna started excellently with Dave Killoran to the fore as he scored the first two points. Seamie Donegan and Jason Henrick also pointed when put straight through on goal, Donegan's effort being palmed over the bar by the Simonstown keeper. Na Fianna's failure to take other goal chances and some erratic shooting, along with midfield dominance by the Navan side enabled them to come back strongly netting a goal and a succession of points to give Simonstown a 1-5 to 0-6 lead at the break.Na Fianna battled hard in the second period, with David Kirby and David Lynch beginning to win the midfield battle and Killoran, Donegan and Sean Griffin constantly probing the Simonstown defence. The turning point for Na Fianna came in the final 10 minutes when Donegan was hauled down in the box and John Farrell slotted the resulting penalty. This gave the South Meath side a 2 point cushion and despite a late point from the Navan side, Na Fianna held on for a deserved win.Best for Na Fianna: Padraic Hogan, David Kirby, Seamie Donegan, Sean Griffin and Dave Killoran.Na Fianna: Shane Geraghty, Shane Farrell, Fergal O' Connor, Padraic Hogan, David Kirby, Fergal Foran, John O' Lone, David Lynch, Hugh Dorgan, Jason Henrick (0-1), Dave Killoran(0-6), Barry Slevin, John Farrell (1-0), Sean Griffin (0-2), Seamie Donegan (0-1).
