July 03, 2009
Dunshaughlin 0-13
Syddan 1-06
Dunshaughlin's B League Division 3 campaign has gone from strength to strength and away to Syddan they secured a third win in a row in a tough encounter.
Dunshaughlin led early on and were cruising towards the break with a big lead. Niall Dundon got Dunshaughlin off the mark after five minutes before a James Rattigan doubled the visitors lead. Syddan pulled a point back but a converted free from Dundon made it 0-03 to 0-01 before Ciaran Murphy stole through the centre to score a fine point. Ciaran Hoary got on the score sheet midway through the opening period and a brace from Dundon gave Dunshaughlin a seemingly unassailable six point lead. But with three minutes left in the half Syddan came to life and score 1-3 in the remaining minutes to leave a shocked Dunshaughlin trudge to dressing room with the game tied at half time.
Syddan led for the first time when they opened the second period with a free. Hoary equalized but Syddan pointed to go back into the lead moments later. But Dunshaughlin tightened things up at the back and it proved to be Syddan's last score in the game. At the other end Dunshaughlin got back on level terms through a fine effort from Emmet Staunton. Rattigan added another before Staunton led the way again with another long range effort. Substitute Padraic O'Dwyer took little time to get on the score sheet, executing a fantastic free moments after joining the fray and with a few minutes remaining Niall Dundon added his fifth of the evening to ensure a good win for Dunshaughlin.
It was a spirited performance from Dunshaughlin with Gerry O'Brien, Ulick McDonnell, Niall Dundon, Ciaran Hoary and Emmet Staunton playing exceptionally well for Dunshaughlin.
