Feis Cup: Cortown edged out by Rathkenny

June 28, 2009

Cortown's Gordon Codd
Rathkenny 1-12 Cortown 0-12 Despite being short 8 players who featured in the champiomnship against Ballinlough last week Cortown gave a good account of themsrelves in this Feis Cup game played in Rathkenny on Friday evening. They were very unlucky not to have at least secured a draw. Cortown started poorly and had a disasterous first half and were lucky to be only 6 points behind at half time. They came out strongly in the second half and wuth David Coyne, John Fagan and Brian Faulkner showing up well they eventually drew level in the 20th minute. However with all out attack they were caught by a Rathkenny goal, when Goalie John McFadden slipped and fell on the ground which was now showing the effects of heavy rain, leaving the Rathkenny full forward with an unguarded net and he made no mistake. This was the defining score of the game and try as they might the visitors could not get the equaliser. Best for Cortown-; B.Casserly, D.Coyne, J.Fagan, J.Reilly, and B.Faulkner.
