Feis Cup: O'Connor on form as Dunboyne prevail
June 28, 2009

Dunboyne's Tommy O'Connor
Dunboyne 1-16
Wolfe Tones 1-13
Tommy O'Connor was in fine - and the victors had nine different scorers - form as Dunboyne just about edged yet another epic encounter between those old foes in the first round of the Feis Cup at Dunboyne on Friday night.
This was one of the best games of Club Football seen in the county for some time. Last term's beaten finalists in this competition led by 0-09 to 0-07 at the interval with excellent long range scores from Craig Berrigan, O'Connor and Stephen Moran being the highlight.
An Alan Fox penalty and a pointed free from the same player seemed to have settled the issue at 0-11 to 1-12 but in the end it was influence of O'Connor in the closing stages that swung it for the side in black an amber.
Firstly, he got on the end of a great move to blast past David Nolan and tie affairs up at 1-12 apiece. He then clipped over his third point before the best two scores of the game arrived courtesy of Gary Watters and Ger Robinson to guarantee a home win with a huge free from the impressive Barry McGinn accounting for the Tones' only response to the late salvo.
Gary Timoney, Colm Brennan, Gary Watters, Berrigan, O'Connor and Robinson stood out most for the winners.
Best for the Tones were Byrne in the first half, McGrath and Fox.
