IFC: Na Fianna look impressive

Na Fianna's Dean Hendrick
Na Fianna 2-12 Drumconrath 0-5 Na Fianna recorded a comfortable victory in their third round Intermediate Football Championship game against Drumconrath in Dunderry on Friday evening. The platform for this victory was firmly laid by the South Meath team's dominance at centre field with Jamie and Brian Queeney keeping a plentiful supply of ball in to the forward line. However it was Drumconrath who opened the scoring with a point after two minutes. This was quickly followed by Na Fianna's opening score coming from the third member of the Queeny family on the team-corner forward Daniel. A goal and two points followed from 'Man of the Match' Dean Henrick and further points from Daniel and Jamie Queeney and two from full forward Dean Barrett gave Na Fianna a 1-7 to 0-3 half time lead. Na Fianna began the second half as they left off in the first half with another Dean Henrick goal. The Na Fianna defense dealt capably with the Dromconrath attacks restricting them to two points in the second half, one of which was an excellent point from over 45 metres out near the sideline scored by Padraig McMahon. Futher points from Daniel and Jamie Queeny, Barrett, Henrick and Albhie Mahon saw Na Fianna run out easy winners. Apart from those mentioned others to play well for Na Fianna were Christy and Tommy Cosgrove, Conor Downey, Rob Walshe, John Baldwin and Shane Burke. David McCormack, who had little to do in goal, kept his second clean sheet of the Championship.
