U16 hurlers Scottish trip

November 30, 2008
The Meath Under 16 Hurling Panel travelled to Oban, Scotland on Friday, 31st October, coming home on Sunday 2nd November. The invitation had been issued on behalf of Argyle and Bute Council by Councillor Roddy McCuish. A hurling/shinty challenge was played on Saturday against a South of Scotland Under 16/17 Selection. The Meath players were prohibited from handling the sliothar but they adapted very well to the Compromise Rules. A game of 4 by 15 minute quarters was played. The Meath team prevailed at the the end of a very exciting and competitive contest by 2 03 to 2 01. The squad was managed by Conor Ferguson (Gaeil Colmcille) assisted by Eoin Hayes (St. Peters, Dunboyne). The remaining mentor Paddy Mc Gee(Trim) was unable to travel due to a prior committment. Michael Mullally (Blackhall Gaels), Chairman of the Meath Juvenile Hurling Committee and Pat Gannon (Killyon) also travelled with the party. The Panel of Players and Management would like to acknowledge the financial subsidies towards the cost of the trip by Meath County Committee(Coaching and Games), Friends of Meath, Leinster Council(Declan Power H.D.A.) and the Clubs of the players who travelled. The players also contributed handsomely to the cost. A very enjoyable weekend was had by all and it should be emphasised that the players were a credit to themselves , their families and their Clubs both on and off the pitch. they represented Meath GAA very well.
