IFC: Cortown and Castletown finish level

April 20, 2009

Cortown's John Casserly
Cortown 1-11 Castletown 1-11 A draw was probably a fair result to this very competitive and highly exciting IFC first round game played in Carlanstown on Sunday afternoon. The game ended in a welter of excitement with Gordon Codd scoring three points for Cortown in added on time to secure a precious point. It was all square at half time 7 points each with Castletown points from Robbie Cribbin (2) and one each for James Finnerty, Barry Smith, Tommy Smith, Shane Farrelly and Liam Clarke. The loss of Gerard Farrelly mid way through the first half with an ankle injury a big disadvantage to Castletown. In the second half Castletown came from three points down to go three ahead. However, Cortown's never say die spirit came to their aid once again and they deservedly drew level. The teams were level on seven occasions in this typical championship game which was played with a high level of intensity. Best for Cortown were John Casserly, John McGearty, Glen Loughran, Breen Smith, Gordon Codd and Declan Casserly. Best for Castletown were Jonathan Metry, Joey Carry, Noel Farrelly, Gerard Farrelly, Barry Smith, Tommy Smith and James Finnerty. Cortown - J .McFadden; M. Casserly, P. Kerrigan, P. Waters; J.
