Dee Ranger 1-5 Boardsmill 3-12
Boardsmill and Dee Ranger faced each other in Syddan on Sunday afternoon before a good attendance at the north Meath venue.
The visitors settled quickest and tested Aoife Burke in the home goal on a number of occasions in the opening minutes. Paula Dorian finally opened the scoring with a well taken free. A further Dorian point together with scores from Caroline Quinn and Rachel Troy stretched the visitors lead before Quinn got the first of her 3 goals on the day.
Lisa Young opened the Ranger account after 15 minutes. The teams exchanged points in the second quarter. The home team finishing strongly with points from Ellie Meade and Samantha Martin (2) while Boardsmill chalked up further points from Dorian, Quinn and Edel Guy to lead by 5 at the break, 1-7 to 0-5.
The second half saw Dee Ranger with the wind at their back and a larger share of possession in the 3rd quarter. The Boardsmill defensive unit led by Aideen Guy were highly effective and limited any clear cut goal chances. Quinn grabbed her second goal after a Dorian free dropped short to extend the visitors lead to 8 points . Laura Griffin and Katie Hackett were introduced on 40 minutes and were to the fore in the last quarter.
Dee Ranger did rally and grabbed a goal with a long range effort from a Samantha Martin free. Further points from Griffin , Quinn and 3 Dorian points closed out the game either side of an opportunist goal from Caroline Quinn when she pounced on a short kick out and coolly lobbed the ball to the Rangers net .The scoring plaudits go to Quinn and Dorian but their sides victory was built around excellent performances from the defence and midfield . Helen Regan was outstanding and was well supported by Aideen Guy.
