O'Mahony looks to qualifiers

July 14, 2008
Mayo manager John O'Mahony will bring his players together tonight to begin plotting their assault on the All-Ireland qualifiers following Sunday's Connacht SFC final defeat to Galway. "Neither Galway our ourselves wanted the qualifier route. But it's the only route open to us now and we'll have to take it and grab it with both hands," he said. "We'll try to get back up into the main stream. It's not going to be easy. There's no point saying otherwise. "There is vulnerability in the qualifier route - I know from past teams I managed. The key to it is to get back and win a match. We really only have one match whereas the team we play has two matches. We will deal with that as best we can." O'Mahony felt Galway's testing semi-final against Leitrim helped them in their preparations for the final. He also claimed that Mayo's first half defensive problems were dealt with as quickly as possible. "Galway had two games to fine tune their team. We had only one, which was a game (against Sligo). I am not making excuses with that. "We had to readjust a little bit. That was always the way. We had guys with injuries and guys with experience on the bench so we had to act quickly when we needed to."
