Mortimer eager to take direct route

Conor Mortimer has grave doubts about Mayo's ability to win the All-Ireland via the back door route.
Of course, that route will be avoided if John O'Mahony's men can beat arch rivals Galway in Sunday's Connacht SFC final. Whereas Mayo went on to reach All-Ireland finals in 2004 and 2006 after winning provincial crowns, they have struggled to make an impact in the All-Ireland qualifiers - something which hasn't been lost on the Shrule-Glencorrib attacker.
"In reality, we're not a qualifier team. There are teams that are and teams that are not. The province is our immediate goal and it's much better to go into the All-Ireland quarter-final that way," he said.
"I think it's very important for us to win a Connacht title again, to bring some pride back into the county. Galway have changed a lot with Liam Sammon over them.
"They're playing free-flowing football and have the forwards to do that. It will take a good performance from us to beat them and it has the makings of a great match."
