Earley backs McDonald's exclusion

July 10, 2008
TV3 analyst and former Roscommon All Star Paul Earley has backed John O'Mahony in his decision not to call on playmaker Ciaran McDonald for this year's All-Ireland Championship. Earley believes that the Crossmolina man's style of play would not suit O'Mahony's team this year and has backed the All-Ireland winning manager in his controversial decision. "In the modern game, if you don't have the ball, you need everybody in your team working hard to try and get the ball back. Ciaran doesn't play like that, and I don't think he would fit into John O'Mahony's team. I think from that perspective, it's the right decision." Meanwhile, Ballina native David Brady, also an analyst for TV3's Championship coverage this summer, has stressed the importance of the Connacht SFC final to both counties and the affect it has on the teams' year. "The Connacht final is everything," said Brady. "Maybe Galway or Mayo mightn't win a the All-Ireland, but if you lose the Connacht final.it's been a bad, bad year.Mayo never want to lose to Galway and Galway never want to lose to Mayo. It's a big game for everybody."
