Davitts GAA Club notes
July 10, 2008
Davitts were defeated, 4-12 to 2-6, by Claremorris, in the South Mayo u-14 A semi-final, played in Hollymount, last Sunday.
Davitts led at the interval 1-5 to 1-4 having played with the breeze in the first half, but Claremorris, inspired by the impressive Mickey Lavelle, stepped up a gear in the second half, and ran out comfortable winners, though not as comfortable as the scoreline suggests. Best for a gallant Davitts side were Brian Clarke, John Macken, Donal Ronayne, Thomas Charles, Tommy Waldron, Cathal Higgins and Andrew Peters.
The u-16 team defeated Ballinrobe in the league, 3-23 to 0-4, in Ballindine on Tuesday evening. On an evening when everything came off for the homeside, and the opposite for Ballinrobe, Davitts had excellent performances from the imperious Donnacha Geraghty and James Prendergast in defence, midfielders Thomas Heneghan and Michael Waldron, who dominated throughout, and ace attackers Josh Ronayne (1-10), Mark Ronayne (1-3), Darren Connolly (0-3) and Tommy Waldron (1-4). Expect a much closer match when these sides meet in the championship in the coming weeks.
Best of luck to Colm Boyle and Fergal McGrath in their respective Connaught finals on Sunday, from all at Davitts GAA Club.
