Mortimers on form for Shrule
July 02, 2008
Mayo stalwarts Conor and Trevor Mortimer both produced gallant displays for their club at the weekend as Shrule/Glenncorrib registered a three-point victory over Louisburgh in the Division 1B league.
Late points from Conor Mortimer, who came away with a personally tally of 1-5 on the day, and Mark Ronaldson turned out to be the match winners, but perhaps the most encouraging fact of the game from the Mayo fans' point of view was the performance of Trevor Mortimer at centre-forward.
Geoffrey Gallagher's early goal provided the ideal start for the Louisburgh, and despite kicking an array of wides in the first-half they led at half-time thanks to their second-goal coming from Paul O'Grady.
However, Stephen Joyce's side came back strong after the restart with Trevor Mortimer to the fore, creating chances and adding a point of his own in the meantime.
Conor Mortimer and Mark Ronaldson did the scoring damage on the day, finishing with 1-10 between them, to help Shrule to victory on a score-line of 1-12 to 2-7.
