Dempsey relishing Rossies clash
July 04, 2008
Mayo minor manager Ray Dempsey has challenged his side to improve on their nine-point win over Sligo at the weekend and capture the Connacht title in two weeks time when they meet Roscommon.
Dempsey believes plenty of work lies ahead for the young Westerners if they are to defeat a Roscommon side who produced a gallant display to overcome All-Ireland Champions Galway after extra-time in Tuam.
"We need to get into good habits and the lads, with the game won, made some poor shot selections," said Dempsey. "But they all worked very hard all through to win primary possession, they knew that was where the match would be won and lost.
"We improved from the Roscommon game," admitted the Mayo boss. Sligo were a banana-skin for us and the lads were just anxious to get through it. Now it's about getting into the right frame of mind for the final. I'll be very surprised if any of our lads don't want to win a Connacht medal."
Mayo have a three major injury concerns ahead of the clash with the 2006 Champions. Kevin Keane (ankle), James Caffrey (leg) and Raymond Geraghty (shoulder) are all doubts and will race to be fit for the McHale Park encounter on July 13.
