New Mayo chairman Mike Connelly has stressed that people must realise the huge brand that the county has.

In his acceptance speech to delegates at last weekend's county convention, the Hollymount-Carramore clubman who is a brother of Mayo senior football joint-manager Ray, stated that the potential in the county was enormous.

"We must realise that Mayo is a huge brand. We need to do business in a more professional way. We must look outside the box to develop our revenue stream and ensure that the debt on MacHale Park doesn't put pressure on clubs or teams," the Western People reports Connelly as saying.

"If there's one criticism - it's communication. We're poor at it and we must change. There has been a breakdown and all communication must be done in a much better and professional way.

"We have the best clubs in the country, we're the best county in the country and we have the best supporters in the world. We also have the best main sponsors in the game. Even when the company (Elverys) were going through some bad times they stood by us and we appreciate that."
