"McStay can get Mayo over the line"

Shane Curran believes Kevin McStay is the man to end Mayo's All-Ireland famine.

The RTE pundit is the bookies' favourite to fill the managerial vacancy left by James Horan and Curran - who was goalkeeper on the St. Brigid's team which McStay guided to All-Ireland club glory last year - feels he can give Mayo the extra push that's needed to reach the Holy Grail.

"There are an awful lot of comparisons to be made with where Mayo are now and where St. Brigid's were when Kevin came into our club," Curran writes in his Westmeath Independent column.

"St. Brigid's had almost got over the line on a few occasions in terms of the All-Ireland club championship, but failed to do so. We were always missing something, that extra little ingredient, and I think Kevin - along with Liam McHale as coach - gave us that something extra to get over the line and to win the All-Ireland club title in 2013.

"Kevin and Liam's skills-set make them the sensible choice for Mayo in the wake of James Horan's departure as manager, and I think they could be able to get Mayo over the line and win an All-Ireland.

"I feel there is an All-Ireland title in this Mayo team and the panel is at a good age."
