Connacht JFC final: Mayo overpower Tribes

May 21, 2012
Mayo claimed their first Connacht JFC title since 2007 with a potent win over Galway at Hyde Park on Sunday afternoon.

Mayo 2-12
Galway 0-10

Despite racking up a total of 16 wides, the Green and Red still managed to come out on top with eight points in hand.

Galway started brightly and led by four points, Cathal Coleman proved to be a handful for the Mayo defense. Wing forward Alan Egan got Mayo up and running with their first score. Soon after, a Colin Dempsey goal levelled matters at 0-4 to 1-1.

Both sides traded scores before Enda McManamon popped up on the stroke of half time to give John Kelly's side the lead for the very first time. Half time score: 1-3 to 0-5.

The Tribesmen made the perfect start to the second half and led by a point - 0-8 to 1-4 until an Aidan McTigue goal put Mayo back infront. This turned the game on its head.

Mayo never looked back and five points without reply ensured a comfortable victory.
