Moran handed Mayo captaincy

Mayo's Andy Moran
Andy Moran will captain Mayo for the rest of the season.

Manager James Horan announced the All Star full forward as his new captain during last week's training camp in Portugal after he had rotated the captaincy to date this year. Moran, who is one of Mayo's most experienced players and served as vice-captain last year, takes over the captaincy from Alan Dillon. Long-serving goalkeeper David Clarke is the team's new vice-captain.

Ballaghaderreen clubman Moran will skipper the reigning Connacht champions for the first time against Cork in Sunday's Allianz Football League final - a game his manager is eagerly looking forward to.

"It's brilliant to be playing Cork in Croke Park," Horan said in the Mayo News.

"We're looking forward to it, and we're looking forward to putting in a big performance. Regardless of the result on Sunday we have a huge amount of work to do before the start of the championship. What we're looking for against Cork is to play to the level that we know we're capable of. If we do that, then whatever else happens is a bonus."
