Maughan rules out Mayo return

Former Mayo manager John Maughan
John Maughan insists he is not interested in returning to the Mayo hot-seat, despite being the bookies' favourite to succeed John O'Mahony.

Maughan, who is currently managing club side Crossmolina, led the Westerners to All-Ireland final appearances in 1996, '97 and 2004, and also had spells in charge of Clare, Fermanagh and Roscommon, but he has told punters to "keep your money in your pocket" ahead of tonight's vote by delegates to nominate a candidate for the Mayo vacancy.

"As I said before, I'd like to get back into county management in a few years - but not right now. If the Mayo county board were to offer me the position, I'd have to decline politely. Keep your money in your pocket," he said.

Noel Connelly, Liam McHale and Ray Dempsey have also ruled themselves out of the running to become Mayo's next manager.
