Hanley off the mark with Lions
August 11, 2010
Mayo's Pearce Hanley scored his first goal for the Brisbane Lions in the AFL last weekend.
The 21 years-old Ballaghaderreen native kicked the goal, and racked up 17 disposals, against the West Coast Eagles at the Subiaco Oval in Perth on Saturday night as the struggling Lions registered a 70-65 victory. He also recorded a career high in possessions and such has been his form of late that he may come into the reckoning for Anthony Tohill's Irish International Rules panel later this year.
This is Hanley's third season with the Queensland club. He played just three games in his first two years with the Lions but has forced his way into the first team recently after recovering from a succession of injuries.
Meanwhile, Kerry's Tadhg Kennelly was again to the fore for the Sydney Swans as they bounced back from successive defeats to overcome Hawthorn by 129-85.
