Brennan still wants promotion

Mayo hurling Manager Martin Brennan
Mayo hurling manager Martin Brennan still has his sights set on promotion.

Though his team were narrowly beaten by Kerry in their opening NHL assignment of the year, Brennan believes Mayo can still move up to Division Two:

"I asked for a performance more than a result [against Kerry]. I wanted to see a serious performance because I'm still rating Kerry and ourselves as the two best teams in the division.

"In saying that, it's going to be hard to go and get a win out of Crossmaglen next Saturday.

"It's a huge chance for us to get up to Division Two and play against some of the big boys. It's a serious possibility.

"But we'll have to beat that Kerry team because more than likely they'll go on and beat what's in this division.

"It would be great to think that Kerry and ourselves could be in the league final because then you've no break - you're straight into championship three weeks after.

"That would be the goal: to stay in the closing stages of the league. It would be great preparation for the Christy Ring."
