Minor boss remains grounded
July 02, 2009
Mayo minor football manager Ray Dempsey isn't getting carried away as his charges prepare to participate in the 2009 Connacht decider.
The county U18s booked their perennial provincial final berth with a mightily impressive 2-13 to 1-7 defeat of Galway last weekend, but Dempsey is refusing to over-hype his players:
"This team is setting out their own niche and anyone in the county who thinks that the final will be a formality are fooling themselves.
"Roscommon are itching to get an crack at us and that worries me greatly. I'm worried about the way we approach this and the way the public in Mayo approach this.
"These young lads have to be left alone to find their feet at intercounty level. We'll have to improve a lot if we're going to beat Roscommon in the final in three weeks' time.
"They had a facile win over Leitrim and really blitzed them, so we have a huge challenge in front of us."
