Intriguing developments in Tallanstown and Ardee
November 20, 2004
The mid-Louth districts of Tallanstown and Ardee are developing at a rapid rate. The population explosions being experienced are a welcome boost to the local GAA clubs, who are always glad to have as many people as possible at their disposal. As a director of building developer Mulreid Construction, former St Marys and John Mitchells footballer Shane Rogers is happy to be playing his part.
Like Ardee, the beautiful, scenic village of Tallanstown is fast becoming one of Louth's residential hotspots. Tallanstown has virtually everything to offer prospective inhabitants and has, unsurprisingly, emerged as a highly sought after location in recent years.
It is a spectacular, picturesque village, where quaint, unspoilt beauty is evident in astounding abundance. The attractions of everyday life here are as apparent as they are paramount. A serial winner in Tidy Towns competitions, Tallanstown is a real jewel in the Wee County crown.
Located within convenient proximity of key urban areas such as Ardee and Dundalk, the village is also close to the new stretch of the M1 motorway connecting Louth to the capital (as, indeed, is Ardee). It has everything going for it - residents can enjoy all the benefits of countryside living with all amenities within easy reach and major towns close by.
Tallanstown also boasts a thriving GAA scene (as, indeed, does Ardee…). Traditionally a junior/intermediate outfit, local club Glyde Rangers have climbed to the highest echelons of Louth football to take their place in senior ranks. Here, they are giving as good as they get.
Glyde spent the entire 2004 season in the top three in the Division 1A league (Cardinal O'Donnell Cup) and were also the first club to qualify for the knockout stage of the SFC. The Sky Blues emerged from Group C with a perfect record but were pipped by Mattock in a replayed quarter-final. Meanwhile, Tallanstown's prodigious juvenile section, Baile Talun, qualified for yet another county minor final but lost narrowly to Newtown Blues.
(Ardee St Marys, meanwhile, reached the senior championship final in 2003, qualified for the knockout stages again in '04 and also collected the Division 1B league title - succeeding none other than Glyde as winners of the McShane Cup.)
All in all, the Tallanstown and Ardee areas have a great deal going for them and Mulreid Construction is doing its part to ensure that people are afforded every possible opportunity of living in these delightful neighbourhoods.
Mulreid Construction is currently working on two key developments in Tallanstown - Glyde View and Tallansfield Manor - as well as the latest phase of Rockfield Close in Ardee.
Both Tallanstown developments are already proving extremely popular and prospective investors are advised to move quickly if they wish to get in on the act.
Glyde View is a 49-house development of luxury three- and four-bedroom houses, all finished to the highest possible standard. Tallansfield Manor is a similarly attractive development, comprising 46 homes.
Tallansfield Manor is a brand new site, which was only launched to the public on Sunday September 12. Demand is already proving very keen. On the same day, Phase Two of Glyde View was also launched. Both developments are available at present and are being sold exclusively through Gallagher's Estate Agents in Ardee.
Mulreid Construction is also active on a large development in Ardee at the moment, where 30 additional houses are being built as part of the popular Rockfield Close development. Like Tallanstown, Ardee is proving to be a highly sought after residential area, largely due to its proximity to the city but also thanks to the expansion and progression of the town, which is now a central hub in the north east. Again, the selling agent is Gallagher's in Ardee.
Mulreid Construction is the brainchild of brothers Shane and John Rogers from Ardee. The pair established the construction/development company in 2000 and have in the meantime earned themselves a reputation for excellence that is second to none.
Demonstrating a thorough professionalism and attention-to-detail, Mulreid Construction is already amongst the frontrunners in its field. The quality of workmanship is beyond question and, in a market where exorbitant prices are very much the norm, Mulreid's homes are both affordable and excellently finished. Indeed, their work is highly acclaimed; their homes admired by all who have the pleasure of visiting them.
As well as their own developments in the mid-Louth catchment, Mulreid also carries out a lot of work for Meath County Council. To this end, the Rogers brothers are currently busy building one hundred new homes in the Royal County towns of Navan, Athboy and Ratoath.
As a young man, company director Shane Rogers lined out for the John Mitchells club, before emigrating to England where he served his apprenticeship in the construction trade. He also had the distinction of winning a Louth minor football championship with St Marys in the mid-eighties. On that team, he played alongside the likes of Brian Scott, Micheal Malone, Conor McCormack and Kevin Cummins.
At the time, St Marys' underage section was an umbrella club, its minor team representing a number of local clubs as well as Ardee - John Mitchells, Hunterstown Rovers and Sean McDermotts. Shane Rogers was one of about five or six 'outsiders' on the 1987 county minor championship winning side.
While work commitments cut his football career short, Shane retains an interest in the local GAA scene. He's a keen supporter of the county team and was disappointed that the Wee County failed to make an impression in 2004:
"It was a poor year. I think there's too much chopping and changing. I'd like to see one man given a chance to manage the team for five years without any interference or interruption, because we need continuity in the team. That would be the best way forward.
"Soccer's a big problem, too. There are two big soccer clubs in Louth and soccer's a much easier game to play. It's not as tough and there's not the same threat of injury, so a lot of lads are opting out of gaelic and playing soccer instead."
