Underage hurling

In total five county competitions were organised during the year. These were the U17 to U12 Blitz, Feile na nGael (U14) and the championships at U14, U16 and U18 grades. Meanwhile county teams participated in Roinn 'C' U16 Leinster minor shield, Leinster U15 league, U15 and U16 Leinster Blitzs as well as the U14 DJ Carey School of Hurling. Feile na nGael League Seven teams took part with Cnoc Brid and Pearse Og meeting in the final at the Regional College Grounds. By defeating Pearse Og 9-3 to 0-2 Cnoc Brid travelled to Cork for the national finals and were hosted by Valley Rovers Club. Quarter Finals Cnoc Brid 5-7, Naomh Feicin 2-3, Wolfe Tones 3-3, N Moninne 0-3 Pearse Og 4-4, Collon 0-3, St Vincents A bye Semi-finals Cnoc Brid 13-6, Wolfe Tones 2-1; Pearse Og beat St Vincents Fun Blitzes U7 - U12 These were hosted by the Collon club on May 12th with eight teams taking part. Refreshments were supplied to all teams and mentors. U14 Championship Seven teams took part in this competition which was devided into two sections. The final between Collon and Cnoc Brid remains to be played. Under 16 Corn Bhrian Ui Bhroin Seven teams took part and it was played on a league basis with the top four meeting in the semi finals. Knockbridge, who had won the inaugural Corn Bhrian Ui Bhroin, retained the trophy on a 2-4 to 1-5 scoreline. Naomh Feicin led by 1-1 to 0-2 at half time after scoring their goal from a 14th minute free. They were the better team in the first half but missed a lot of chances. Naomh Feicin moved further ahead on the resumption but Knockbridge got a great equalising goal through Shane Kerrigan. The Feicins went back in front but conceded a soft goal to provide Knockbridge with the platform for victory. After the final whistle, Maura and Miceal O'Broin were on hand to present the Corn Bhrian Ui Bhroin to Knockbridge captain Barry Piper. Minor championship This competition was played on a league basis with five teams taking part. The top four are involved in the semi finals which at the time of going to press are still to be played. Under 12 Go Hurling Four teams took part in this at Termofeckin on Saturday August 27th. Hurley/Helmet Scheme Monitored by Coiste Iomana who received a grant of E1270.00 from Croke Park. It proved a great success with record sales of hurley and helmets to schools and clubs at subsidised prices. The number of hurleys sold was 1314 and 234 helmets.
