Louth Primary Schools GAA
November 20, 2005
The Louth GAA Primary Schools Committee held their A.G.M in Bellingham Castle. The Meeting was well attended with 25 schools represented. Chairperson Joe McKenna welcomed all present to the meeting , especially Louth County Chairman Paddy Oliver.
In his address to the AGM , Paddy Oliver put it to the teachers present that the Louth Primary GAA Committee were the envy of many other counties due mainly to their exceptional organisational skills, their high quality leadership team and their harmonious relationship at all times with the Louth County Committee ...
traits not always available elsewhere. He noted that the Committee willingly embraced change and were adept at garnering tremendous press coverage for all their activities in published, oral or photographic form. The Louth County Board would support their activities fully in terms of manpower, facilities and indeed finance if the case arose. He thanked them for their continued support in promoting all GAA activities throughout the County. He supported fully the work of Games Promotion Officer John Byrne in the schools and welcomed Mairead McGahon, newly appointed G.P.O , to the education sector.
Chairperson Joe McKenna in his address thanked all the teachers for their dedication and support to all GAA activities at Cumann na mBunscol level within Louth. He had an Officer Board all of whom performed their duties to a very high standard of excellence and wished them all well for the incoming year [all Officers returned unopposed for 2005-2006 ].
He thanked the Louth County Board for their assistance, the Louth GAA Supporters Club for their financial input towards coaching expenses, Allianz - Church & General for their continued financial sponsorship and Roadstone N.E for their Purchase of Medals. On a sad note he informed the meeting that due to re-organisation Roadstone N.E would no longer be in a position to sponsor the annual medals bill as heretofore. Both the Secretary [Irene Brennan] and the Treasurer [Lorcan O hÙallachain ] deserved special mention for the way they carried out their duties during the past year with sheer professionalism and dedication. P.R.O Pat Hamilton and Photographer P.J.Geraghty ensured that the issue of projecting a positive and frequent image of the Cumann was always to the fore. The Democrat, Argus, Drogheda Independent and LMFM deserved great praise for their constant mredia exposure for all our games. He paid tribute to the Officers/Committee members who refereed, stewarded and assisted at all times, especially at the finals.
Secretary Irene Brennan in a comprehensive Report outlined the events of the previous year. All Competition winners were acknowledgedas were Summer Camps; Indoor Hurling; Coaching & Games Development matters. She noted the input of the Committee and in particular the role played by the Chairman J. McKenna. The large attendance at the A.G.M was an indication of the support GAA activities received from primary teachers.
Treasurer Lorcan O`hUallachain outlined in detail the financial status of the Cumann, noting the loss of major sponsor Roadstone and the outstanding Allianz Grant payments left the Books at their lowest level for years. At this stage the AGM agreed to up the Registration fees per School to E50-00 per annum to alleviate costs.
Roadstone were thanked for their input over the years as were Allianz- Church & General. It was agreed to examine the major "accounts" to see could the new Committee provide alternative sponsorship / funding from within the county. He paid a particular tribute to Anne Harrington who acted as "gateperson" at all the finals during the year.
Both Reports were adopted unanimously by the Meeting.
