Alan Quigley kept the Joes Senior Championship hopes alive when he kept a cool head to fire over a 45m free deep into injury time and send this quarter-final to a replay.

It looked as if the Geraldines would be taking on the Blues in the last four as seconds earlier Jim McEneaney had edged his team in front with a long range free, but his side couldn't hold out in a dramatic finale.

It was a fitting outcome to a game at Dowdallshill where the teams traded scores throughout the hour and with never more than a point between them, it was no surprise that they couldn't be separated at the end.

Despite the greasy conditions, there were some good scores over the course of the game, and it was the Gers who opened the scoring on eight minutes through Josh Arrowsmith only for Derek Mulligan to reply almost immediately.

McEneaney and Quigley kicked two points apiece before Glen Trainor and Conal O'Hanlon traded scores before the 25th minute. McEneaney edged the Haggardstown side ahead once again but Derek Mulligan pointed with the last effort of the half to send the teams in level at five points apiece.

The second half followed a similar pattern with the lead changing hands a number of times, but neither side was able to open up a gap. There were also a number of goal chances with McEneaney and Trainor going close for the Gers, while Quigley and Mulligan had chances at the other end.

When Mulligan kicked his third point of the game on 57 minutes it appeared that the Joes might just scrape through, but the Gers refused to give up and McEneaney levelled before an injury time free had his team on the brink of victory.

However, the Joes had time for one more attack and Quigley took full advantage of a long range free to send the game to a replay.
