Leinster Club JFC: Kevins make their exit

October 17, 2016

BRACKNAGH (OFFALY) 2-17

ST KEVINS 2-11

St Kevins made their exit from the Leinster Junior Championship after suffering an extra-time defeat away to the Offaly champions, Bracknagh, on Saturday afternoon.

The Louth men battled gamely throughout but just fell short as the hosts held out for a three-point victory in this entertaining replay. The Kevins showed great heart to battle back from a seven point deficit in the final quarter of normal time but were unable to sustain the effort in extra time.

After extra time couldn't separate the teams at The Grove the previous week, the Kevins made the trip to Midlands in optimistic mood. However, they made a disappointing start as the Offaly men found the net inside five minutes as they took control of the game.

A goal from Cian Callan helped keep the Philipstown men in the game as they went in at break 1-8 to 1-2 in arrears.

The visitors struggled to get any real rhythm going in the second half and it looked to be all over as they trailed by 1-12 to 1-5.

The Kevins then found inspiration and a goal from Seanie Crosbie helped them score 1-4 without replay to level that game and force extra time.

However, those exertions seemed to take their toll on the Louth champions and they were outscored by 0-5 to 0-2 in extra time as they hosts made it through to the next round.
