FL Div 3: Emmets need just one more win

June 27, 2016

Glen Emmets need just one more win to claim the Division 3 League title following this comprehensive 2-22 to 0-7 victory over Lannleire at home on Saturday evening.

The Emmets will clinch the title this weekend if they see off the challenge of Stabannon Parnells in their next outing.

The hosts were on top throughout the game and a fast start saw them lead by 0-6 to 0-2 after 20 minutes before two Conor Grimes goals saw them take a 2-8 to 0-3 advantage into the break.

Three quick points at the start of the second half put the result beyond any doubt as the Emmets ran out easy winners against a Dunleer side who saw Alan Murphy top score with three points. Roche Emmets are keeping the pressure on the Tullyallen men afer they cruised to a 3-25 to 0-4 win over John Mitchels to stay within two points.

The Faughart side were never in trouble at any stage in this game and saw Caoimhin Reilly score two goals, while David Quigley also hit the net. Meanwhile, Liam Carthy and Barry O'Hare scored eight points each.

St Kevins moved into the play-off places at the expense of Sean McDermotts after recording a 3-13 to 0-7 victory on Saturday evening.

The Philipstown men got off to a great start with Cian Callan finding the net on five minutes. Points from Tony Kelly kept the Seans in touch but despite Seanie Crosbie missing a penalty, his side went in at the break leading by 1-6 to 0-4.

The second half saw the McDermotts challenge fade as goals from Darren McMullen and Cian Callan sealed a comfortable win. Meanwhile, Dowdallshill moved clear of the relegation zone when they came out on top against Nh Malachi by 3-9 to 2-8 at St Brigid's Park.

In a well-contested encounter, it was the Mals who made the better start as Liam Campbell struck for an early goal. However, the hosts hit back and a goal from a Noel Finnegan penalty saw his side lead by 1-6 to 1-5 at the break.

Collie Rooney struck for a goal early in the second half to put the Mals back in front, but two goals in quick succession from Ciaran Sheridan and Jack McGailey helped secure the win for Dowdallshill.

Stabannon Parnells remain in fourth position in the league after seeing off the challenge of St Nicholas on a 3-15 to 0-7 scoreline.

The Parnells led by 2-10 to 0-4 at half time before going on to win by 17 points. Dean Smith, with four points, top scored for the Nicks, who remain bottom of the table as a result of this defeat.
