FL3 round-up: Emmets continue to hold advantage

Barry O'Hare - Roche Emmets

Glen Emmets continue to hold the advantage in the race for the Division 3 title after picking up another victory, this time getting the better of St Kevins on a 1-16 to 0-11 scoreline.

The game in Tullyallen saw the hosts make a bright start and after just ten minutes they had the ball in the net thanks to a terrific effort from Rory O'Neill. The Emmets built on that score and by the break they had built up a 1-6 to 0-5.

Three points inside the first three minutes of the second half from O'Neill, Conor Grimes and Stephen Healy put the game beyond the reach of St Kevins. The visitors struck three late points from substitute Lee Crosbie but it wasn't enough to deny the Emmets their sixth win from six outings.

Roche Emmets are on top of the table after their 5-18 to 0-5 win over Cuchulainn Gaels saw their score difference enhanced significantly while recording a sixth win in seven games.

The game in Omeath saw the visitors rarely troubled as they eased to a 3-9 to no score lead at the interval.

Barry O'Hare was the top scorer for the winners with 2-8, while Kevin Callaghan landed 1-6. Conor Carthy contributed 1-3 while Evin Quigle also hit the net. Both Rammie Phillips and Cian McDonald landed two points each for Gaels.

Lannleire needed an improved second half display before they finally overcame Dowdallshill at St Brigid's Park on a 0-19 to 2-4 scoreline.

Aidan McCabe got the hosts off to a perfect start with a goal on three minutes.

However, with Colin Murphy kicking four points the Dunleer side recovered to lead by 0-6 to 1-2 at half time.

The visitors fired over four unanswered points to take a grip on proceedings and although McCabe added a second goal for the Hill, Lannleire dominated the remainder of the half and three points from Ian Mulroy helped them seal the victory. Sean McDermott's kept up their fine form with an easy 3-14 to 0-4 victory over a depleted St Nicholas side.

Almost right from the throw in Kevin Carroll had the ball in the Nick's net following some fine work by Emmet Duffy and when TJ Duffy added another major a few minutes later the game in Jimmy Pentony Park was all but over.

Two further points and a well taken Lorcan Myles goal left the visitors 3-2 to 0-3 ahead at the break and at stage they were very much in command.

Things didn't get any better for the home side in the second half with the Seans adding a further 12 points to their tally while all the Nicks had to offer for their efforts was a solitary point.

The wet conditions and the weakened opposition left it difficult to pick star performers on the Seans side however Danny Reilly, Ian Corbally, Emmet Duffy, Tony Kelly, and David O'Neill all had fine outings.

St Nicholas battled throughout the game and saw Brian Kerins finished as their top scorer with three points.

Stabannon made it four wins on the trot as they scored a 2-11 to 2-6 victory against neighbours John Mitchels in Ballybalie on Saturday evening.

The Parnells started brightly and went three points up early on but the Mitchels got back level after ten minutes thanks to a Robbie Coyle goal. Stabannon regained the lead with a Cathal Halpenny point and went into half time ahead by 0-8 to 1-3 after further points from Aidan Shevlin, Colm Giggins and David Cluskey.

An early second half goal from Aidan Shevlin and a late Sean Halpenny goal was enough to separate the teams and give Stabannon two vital points in their bid for a league semi final spot despite the fact that Robbie Coyle struck a second goal for the home side.
