In their first game since dropping down to Division 3, Glyde Rangers recorded a comfortable win over Nh Malachi in Courtbane on a scoreline of 2-12 to 0-4.

The Tallanstown side got off to a great start as Lar O'Brien found the net on 10 minutes. Although the Malachis battled well for the remainder of the half, the visitors went in at the break with a healthy 1-5 to 0-4 lead.

The second half was dominated by Glyde as Niall Sharkey came to the fore by scoring 1-2 in the opening ten minutes to effectively end the game as a contest. The visitors added a further five points with Nh Malachi unable to add to their tally.

Glen Emmets also had to wait until the second half before taking a firm grip on proceedings on their way to a 4-12 to 1-6 win away to St Nicholas.

Three goals inside the opening nine minutes of the second half from David Bracken, Ronan Grufferty and Eamonn Mullen saw the Tullyallen men get on top in this encounter. Damien Grimes added a fourth goal, while Paddy Murtagh also scored a consolation goal for the Nicks.

The Drogheda men had competed well for much of the first half but after the first four points were shared, Glen Emmets scored five unanswered points to go in at the break with a 0-7 to 0-3 advantage.

Cian Callan was the hero for St Kevins as he fired in a last minute goal to give his side a dramatic 3-10 to 3-8 win over John Mitchels at Ballybailie. That goal brought the 17-year-old's personal tally to 3-8 for the game.

Callan scored his first goal in the opening half but it was the Mitchels who had the better of things as they went in leading by 2-5 to 1-5 with Diarmuid Durnin and Stephen Coyle hitting the net for the hosts.

It looked as if the hosts were on course for victory as they led by seven points with eight minutes remaining thanks to a Robbie Coyle goal. However, Callan had the final say with two late goals to hand his team an opening day win.

Sean McDermotts also made a winning start as they travelled to Wolfe Tones and recorded a 4-8 to 1-8 win.

The Mountrush men did the damage in the first half as they grabbed three of their goals. Aaron Myles scored the first in the opening minutes before Lorcan Ludden and Peter Osborne hit the net in the closing ten minutes to hand their side a 3-3 to 0-2 advantage at the turnaround.

The Tones upped their game after the break but the result was never really in doubt and an Emmet Duffy goal sealed the win before the Tones scored a consolation effort through Martin Smith.

Stabannon Parnells got off to a winning start in Division 3 thanks to a comfortable 4-12 to 0-8 victory over Cuchulainn Gaels in Omeath.

The visitors started brightly and their first score of the game was a well taken goal by Thomas McBride and when David Cluskey grabbed two goals before half time the game was over as a contest, as Stabannon led 3-7 to 0-3.

Stabannon added a forth goal through Daniel Bannon while Cuchulainn Gaels never gave up and recorded five second half points through Rammie Phillips, Eoin McDonald and Cian McDonald.

After coming so close to winning promotion in 2014, Westerns are also up and running this season after recording a 4-10 to 0-6 win at home to Dowdallshill.

The game was effectively over as a contest by half time as the hosts raced into a 2-6 to 0-1 lead.

The Dundalk side did improve in the second half but they were never able to challenge a Westerns side that hit the net through Tommy Durnin, Stephen Boylan, Aidan McGarrell and John Murray.
