Oliver Plunketts saw their Leinster Junior Championship adventure come to an end when they lost at home to Moate All Whites on Sunday afternoon.

Following their victory over the Dublin representatives in the first round, hopes were high that the Plunkets could make a real challenge for the title but ultimately they were made pay for a slow start to both halves.

The Louth champions conceded the opening four points of the game and although they battled back into contention, an unanswered 1-3 early in the second period effectively settle the issue.

The Plunketts, who also lost Davy McTeggart to a second yellow, did battle gamely to save the game but in the end they came up short as Moate booked a place in the semi-final.

The visitors were sharp in front of goal from the opening whistle and raced into a 0-4 to no score lead before the impressive Cian Matthews got his side off the mark just before the end of the first quarter.

Matthews added two more while Robbie Brodigan also bagged a brace to keep his side in touch when trailing by 0-8 to 0-5 at half time.

Matthews cut the gap to two points after the restart but his side couldn't get any closer as the visitors moved up a gear. In a devastating five-minute spell they scored 1-3, to increase the gap to 1-11 to 0-6 while the Plunketts were reduced to 14 with the dismissal of McTeggart.

However, the Louth side refused to give up and with the help of a Cian Matthews goal brought the deficit back to three points but it was too late to deny Moate victory.
