The race for the Division 2 title took a dramatic twist on Friday night when St Fechins came from eight points down to record a 1-11 to 0-13 victory over rivals St Josephs at Cluskey Park.

The result means that the Termonfeckin outfit move top of the table on score difference and head-to-head which means that if they win their final two games they will win promotion to Division 1.

It looked as if the Joes were destined to land the title when they led by 0-9 to 0-3 and extended that gap with two early second half points.

However, Ronan Holcroft kick-started the revival with a goal from a penalty and he completed the comeback with two late points.

St Marys consolidated their position in the play-off places when they held on to defeat Clan na Gael by 1-9 to 0-10 in Ardee.

Paudy Clarke's goal inside 30 seconds proved the difference as his side went on two pick up two vital points.

Clarke's goal helped the Marys lead by 1-5 to 0-7 at the break although points from Billy Smith and Mark McGeown kept the Dundalk men in the game. However, with Robbie Leavy and Ronan Carroll landing crucial points, the home side did enough to win.

Meanwhile, Young Irelands continued their push for a top five finish when they came from behind to defeat Hunterstown Rovers by 1-10 to 1-7 in Dundalk.

Rovers had the better of the first half and a goal from Brendan Lennon saw them take a deserved 1-3 to 0-4 lead into the interval.

However, the Dundalk men raised their game considerably in the second half and a goal from Mark Savage capped a fine team effort as they went onto record a three-point victory.

At the other end of the table, St Brides recorded a 1-13 to 0-14 victory over St Mochtas in their bid to retain their Division 2 status in Louth Village.

The hosts went into the game with a play-off place in their sights and things were going well for them when they went five points ahead, although the advantage was reduced to 0-8 to 0-5 at half time.

The game turned when the Brides grabbed the only goal of the game in the second half and they pushed on from there to claim a one-point win.

Glyde Rangers are facing the drop to Division 3 after a 0-14 to 1-9 defeat to Na Piarsaigh at the Rock Road leaves them four points adrift at the bottom of the table.

The Tallanstown side began well and at the break had built up at 0-7 to 0-5 lead which could have been better but Trevor O'Brien saw his effort crash off the post.

The Dundalk men hit back in the second half to draw level but Glyde regained then lead when Ciaran Sheridan scored the only goal from a penalty. However, his side was unable to build on that score as Na Piarsaigh finished the stronger to seal victory.
