Louth and St Mochtas star Ciaran Byrne
Ciaran Byrne says he could play in the Louth intermediate football championship final - if St Mochtas make it there!

The former Louth attacker is currently playing AFL football with Carlton Blues but could be home soon if his pro club fails to progress to the business end of the season.

Mochtas, meanwhile, have booked their place in the quarter-final stage of the IFC, where they are due to face St Fechins on the weekend of August 31st.

They defeated Naomh Malachi by 1-15 to 3-5 in their second group outing to secure progression, with Casey's brother, Declan Byrne, floating over twelve points.

"If we don't make the finals, it would mean I'll be home sooner, so I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that the Mochtas can stay in the championship until I do get back," the Carlton clubman writes in his blog in The Argus.

"There's an end-of-season players' trip with the club and that will probably be sooner rather than later because it doesn't look like either team will be making finals.

"It' hard to know when I'll be flying home but let's just say if the lads make it to the championship final it would take wild horses to hold me back!"
