Naomh Fionnbarra began their bid for Junior Championship glory with a facile victory over St Nicholas in Drogheda on Sunday afternoon.

The Nicks have been experiencing a difficult season to date and the draw certainly wasn't kind to them in handing them a meeting with one of the competition's favourites.

Unfortunately for the Drogheda men, the game went very much to form and within ten minutes of the throw-in the game was as good as over.

The Finbarrs went into the championship hoping to make up for the disappointment of losing the final last year, and the certainly couldn't be accused of complacency as they came straight out of the blocks. In that blistering spell they tagged on 2-6 with the help of goals from Jack Butterly and Bernard Osborne.

Before the break, Darren McConnon added a third goal to make it 3-11 to no score while the Nicks task became even more difficult when they were reduced to 14 men.

The second half followed a similar pattern with the Barrs adding goals from Bernard Osborne, Conor Osborne and Kieran Murphy to complete the win.

The Nicks did get off the mark in the second half through a Gary Shevlin point.
