IFC: Glyde hold on for win

July 14, 2014

Conor Sheridan Glyde Rangers.
GLYDE RANGERS 1-12
ROCHE EMMETS 2-8

Glyde Rangers had to withstand a second half comeback from Roche Emmets before hanging on for a one-point victory at Dowdallshill on Friday night.

The Tallanstown side looked to be firmly in command of this Intermediate Championship Group 4 clash when they led by seven points at half time. However, a goal within seconds of the restart from Kevin Callaghan kick-started the Roche revival and they brought themselves right back into contention.

In a tense finale it was the Mid Louth side who held their nerve and a late point from Trevor O'Brien proved to be the difference between the teams.

There was little to choose between the teams going into this encounter but it was Glyde who hit the ground running and took the game to Roche from the opening whistle.

With Trevor O'Brien and Stephen Sharkey kicking some good scores, the Tallanstown men edge ahead while a goal from O'Brien helped them to a very healthy 1-7 to 0-3 lead at half time.

There appeared to be no way back for Roche at the stage but within seconds of the restart they were given a huge lift when Kevin Callaghan burst through the middle to fire the ball to the back of the net.

That score seemed to rattle Glyde and the Faughart men took advantage as a second goal from Callaghan helped them level matters.

The game could have gone either way at that stage but it was Glyde who got the all-important next score while Trevor O'Brien added another to give his side breathing space.
Roche battled to the end and pulled back one point but they were unable to force an equaliser before time ran out.
