Roscommon play Louth for the Dermot Early Memorial Perpetual Cup
April 17, 2012
To celebrate the life of Dermot Early, Mayo Roscommon Hospice in co-ordination with Strokestown GAA Club are delighted to launch the Dermot Early Memorial Perpetual Cup.
Dermot a former Chief of Staff with the Irish Defence Forces represented the Roscommon Senior Team for twenty years winning five Connacht Titles, one National League and two All-Stars. The ultimate prize unfortunately did not come his way but he did win an All-Ireland U-21 title in 1966.
Dermot was not only admired by his own county but also by opposing players and in his last appearance in 1985 Mayo Ppayers carried him shoulder high from the playing field. It was a fitting tribute to a great sportsman.
The game will be contested by Dermot's beloved Roscommon and high flying Louth. After two very promising league campaigns this will be a very interesting contest and will be great preparation for the upcoming championship.
The game will also celebrate the opening of Strokestown's new state of the art GAA pitch. It promises to be an enjoyable days entertainment and will be a fitting tribute to the late great Dermot Early.
Roscommon V Louth 4pm Sunday the 22nd - Strokestown GAA Pitch. Proceeds for the game will go towards the Mayo Roscommon Hospice & Strokestown GAA club.
