President could appear in court next month

GAA President Christy Cooney
GAA President Christy Cooney could appear in the Circuit Court on February 1st.

The case is being brought by Louth football fan Paddy Garvey over the awarding of Meath's controversial winning goal in the 2010 Leinster SFC final at Croke Park, when Joe Sheridan famously threw the ball over the line to deny the Wee County the Delaney Cup.

Garvey insists that the GAA must answer for its decision to allow the goal to stand and is persevering with a legal action.

Garvey already tried to get the GAA President summoned to court but that request was refused last year.

The case will be heard in the Circuit Court in Dublin on Wednesday, February 1st but the plaintiff has conceded that he is "open to negotiation with them, even if it is on the steps of the court."
