Gerry Reilly U-16 FT final on Sunday

August 05, 2010
2010 marks the 20th anniversary of the Gerry Reilly Memorial U16 Inter-County Football Tournament since it was first run by Oldcastle GFC.

The competition has proved a great success in providing a platform to launch inter-county football careers. This is backed up with so many players from all the participating teams making it all the way to represent their senior county teams at the highest level. After a break of a few years with only blitzes allowed, we were delighted to be able to run the tournament again.

This year's final between Louth and Westmeath takes place on Sunday next, 8 August in Millbrook, Oldcastle at 7.30 pm.

Louth are seeking to win the trophy for the first time, while Westmeath are looking to win it for the first time since 2001. Both teams displayed great skills and determination in the 'round robin' section, and augurs well for a great final. When the teams met earlier in the tournament, they had already qualified and neither side wished to show their hand.

Gerry Reilly
This tournament commemorates Gerry Reilly who died tragically in December '87 at 16 years of age, and he had already proved to be a great footballer with huge potential to go on to great heights in the game.
