The game was played in a downpour which made conditions awkward for both teams. They still managed to play a lot of skillful football and both showed great determination. Plenty of mistakes during the game on the wet surface and the advantage lay with both backlines in the conditions. St. Mary's got off to a better start in the first half with Brian McCoy converting a number of frees. Cooley had the better of the exchanges in the first half but still were behind by two points at haltime thanks to a great display by St. Mary's fullback line. In the second half both teams enjoyed plenty of possession but it was St. Mary's who gradually pulled away to lead by five points. Cooley however did not give up and three points in a row brought them to within two points but time ran out. For their second half display St. Mary's deserved to wim with a great display from their fullback line and a greater allround effort from the midfield and forwards.
