Under 16's bring Leinster glory
November 30, 2008
Louth U16 Girls had a wonderful 2008 season. Training started back in January. They trained in Darver on Wednesday and Friday nights and Sunday mornings.
The first Game was against Offaly in Darver on March 24th which they won well. Next up was Longford in Darver on 29th March which finished a draw. This was to be followed by away game against Kilkenny on 5th April which again saw the Louth Girls come out on top. Their next game against Carlow was due to be played in Carlow on 19th of April, but unfortunately Carlow withdrew from the competition. This left the last game in the league against Wicklow which was played in Ardee on 3rd of May. This proved to be a very tough game for the girls but again their high level of fitness saw them come out on top winning by 3pts.
Next was the semi final against Offaly to be played in Tullamore on 7th of May. Again the girls had to dig deep to pull off a winning performance which would see them through to the Leinster B final against Wicklow which was played in Clane on the 17th May. A great crowd traveled to the final which gave these girls great encouragement where the girls did not disappoint and played some tremendous football to come out Leinster B Champions. Emma Conlon from St. Mary's GFC proudly lifted the Leinster B Cup for the Wee County.
The Girls then had a long wait until 12th July for their all Ireland Quarter final. This lapse in time was to prove costly for this dedicated side who were beaten by a very strong Clare side who went on to win the All Ireland at this level.
