Manager pleased with junior workout
June 04, 2009
Eamonn McEneaney was a happy man after his county junior side came through their championship opener against Cavan unscathed.
The Reds overcame the slack concession of two goals inside four minutes to thump the Breffni boys by 3-15 to 3-5 at Haggardstown and progress to the next round of the Leinster junior championship.
Afterwards, the manager said: "It was an encouraging display, absolutely. Louth teams who give away two goals in the first five minutes usually collapse and we didn't.
"I know we had eight or nine seniors playing but it was an opportunity for other lads to show what they could do and some of them grabbed it with both hands.
"I'll be encouraging them to keep that up now because some of them have definitely played their way into my thoughts for the Laois game [on June 14].
"Some of the boys put in top-class performances and I'll be talking to them individually as to where they go from here, but certainly from our point of view it was a very worthwhile exercise."
