Lory Meagher Cup: Leitrim see off Longford

May 21, 2012
A dominant second half performance from Leitrim saw them out pace Longford at Glennon Brothers, Pearse Park on Sunday afternoon.

Leitrim 2-18
Longford 3-11

Played as a curtain raiser to the Leinster SFC clash of Longford and Laois, on lookers witnessed an entertaining game of hurling from the very start.

The hosts made a promising start and a goal from Luke Kelly shortly after the opening quarter had them in front - 1-4 to 0-4. Leitrim hit back immediately when centre forward Keith Boyle rattled the net but a John Newman goal put nothing between the sides at the break.

The impressive Clement Cunniffe led the way for the Leitrim men after the resumption, the full forward finished up with a personal tally of 1-11.

A superbly taken penalty from Cunniffe gave Leitrim some breathing space but Longford battled back with the help of a couple of well taking scores from Eoin Donnellan. However, the dismissal of Stephen Connolly earlier did not help matters for the hosts.

Sean Browne goaled late on for Longford but it was only consolation at that stage as Leitrim ran out worthy winners.
