Dromard
On Wednesday last our seniors travelled to McGann Park Kenagh to play round 4 of the All County league. The game was played under floodlights. Francis Mc Gee got our opening score of the game - a goal from play after good approach work. The same player knocked over a point from play followed by another point from play from the boot of Declan Mimnagh. The home side recorded their opening score a pointed free. We added a further 5 points from play before half time to leave the scoreline at the break 1-07 to 0-02. We added a further 2 goals in the second half to stretch our advantage. The final score was Dromard 3-10 Kenagh 0-04. On Saturday our special junior league team travelled to play Grattan's in their excellent new pitch in Dunbeggan. The home side went 1-01 to no score ahead. We responded with points from play. We conceded another goal but picked off a few more points from play, the last of which was a fine long range effort from Michael Reynolds. The half time score was Dromard 0-07 Grattan's 2-03. In the second half we had the assistance of the breeze and our players played very good football with our finishing of a high standard. The final score was Dromard 0-15 Grattan's 2-08. Team and scorers; Danny Pettit, James Conefrey, Thomas Conefrey, Niall Berry, Michael Reynolds (0-01), Keith Masterson, Dermot Reilly (0-1), Mícheál Reilly (0-02), Kevin Maguire (0-02), Cornie McGinley, Mark Murtagh, Sean Pettit (0-03), Gary Maguire (0-05) 2 frees. Great to Sean Pettit back in a Dromard jersey. He certainly didn't lose any of his attacking skills if his performance on Saturday is anything to go by. Next outing for this team is away to Killashee next Friday at 7.30pm. On Sunday last we travelled the short journey to Monaduff to take on Fr. Manning Gaels in a Reserve league Div. 1 game. Sean McNerney landed the last point of the half. The half time score was Dromard 1-04 Fr. Manning Gaels 0-04. On the resumption we extended our lead adding 4 points. St Francis - Dromard
On Tuesday our under 16's played their last game of their division and finished on a high note with a win in a high scoring encounter. Steady rain made conditions difficult for players but it certainly didn't affect the entertainment level of this game. There were plenty of goals scored by both teams and at half time our team held a 3-09 to 3-03 lead. The second half saw a total of 12 goal scored with the visitors scoring the majority. However our boys were able to find their point scoring range and by full time we were ahead on the scoreline of St. Francis 8-18 St. Mel's 10-06. Team and scorers; Oisín Hourican, Cillian Hourican, Joseph Reynolds, Barry Connell, Liam Doherty, Bryan McCormack (2-06), Dylan Masterson (0-04), Peadar Kiernan (1-04), Conal Murphy (1-00), Martin McStay (1-03), Dylan McCormack (3-01). Subs; Brian Kiernan, Barry Smith and Patrick Mimnagh.
On Wednesday our under 10's travelled to Killoe to take part in a blitz. Our teams played games against Killoe, Clonguish Óg and Shannon Gaels. Well done to all players who all played really well in this enjoyable evening of football. Thanks to all parents who were present and provided transport. Players on duty were, Ollie Duffy, Matt Duffy, Cathal Reilly, Stephen Donohoe, Joshua Gray, Shane Grimes, Jason Grimes, Christopher Grimes, Jamie Conboy, Cian Gray, Daniel Conboy, Nichole Conboy, Ryan O'Connor, Callum McEntire, James Brady, Mikey Gormley, Oisín O'Toole, Rory O'Toole, Alan Corcoran, Ronan Corcoran, Gavin Reilly, Ian McLoughlin and Thomas Maguire. Next week our under 8's travel to Grattan's pitch in Stonepark where they have a blitz. On Thursday our under 14's played St. Dominic's/Moydow Óg in the league. Our team competed to the final whistle but it was the stronger opponents that had took the spoils. Team on the evening; Gabriel Gray, Daragh O'Toole, Jason Murtagh, Martin McStay, Cíarán Murphy, Joseph Hagan, Luke McEntire, Oisín Hourican, Gareth O'Hara Allen, Dylan McCormack, Niall Gray and Fíachra Gray. Get well wishes to under 14 player Éanna Mimnagh who had a minor operation recently. On Saturday last our minors played their last game of the special minor league against Granard/Ballymore in Pairc na Gael. Despite our opponents finding the Dromard net on three occasions the score at half time was St. Francis 1-07 Granard/Ballymore 3-01. While the second half was also a competitive affair the score at full time was St. Francis 2-11 Granard/Ballymore 4-03. With almost a full team to choose from, and with a number of players recovered from injuries and illness, and with a work rate much more true to this teams form, we played quite well on the day against quite a useful and pacy Granard/Ballymore team. It would be unfair to single out individual players as everyone put their shoulder to the wheel from the throw in. Perhaps with better distribution of the ball to loose players upfront, and if we had picked off easy points rather than relentlessly shooting for goals, as scores were very hard come by and the teams were closely matched, we could have opened a gap and not been under pressure up until the final whistle sounded. Overall, well done to all of the panel and captains Stephen Kenny and Peter Mimnagh in this our last game in the Div. 1 Special Minor League. Team and scorers; Eóin McNerney, Stephen Kenny, joint captain, Barry Connell, Liam Doherty, Ronan Smith, Robert Cooke, Neil Cosgrove (0-01), Niall McManus (0-01), Peadar Kiernan (0-01), Bryan McCormack (1-02), Dylan Masterson (0-03), Peter Mimnagh, joint captain (1-02), Conal Murphy (0-01). Subs on the evening; Joseph Reynolds, Cillian Hourican, Brian Kiernan, Patrick Mimnagh and Mark Donohoe
