As part of an initiative to help promote the Irish Language within the G.A.A. and the wider community Longford County Board are offering grants of €250 to students to attend Gaeltacht courses. Applicants must be 13 years of age on 1st January 2012 and will be selected by interview in February/March. Closing date for applications is 3rd February. Contact a member of the executive for application forms or further information. ' Hard luck to Longford u21s who went down to Cavan in the Hasting Cup final on Saturday last after a gallant display. Best of luck to Damien and Francis and their Longford senior team mates when they take on Offaly in Pearse Park on Sunday next in the opening round of the National Football league. Minor AGM takes place on Friday next at 8.30pm in the clubhouse. Sincere sympathies to the Martin family Drumhaldry on the passing of Pat Martin during the past week. The 1st Anniversary Mass for Cian Smith will be celebrated in Colmcille on Friday evening next 3rd February at 7pm. Lotto results for Monday night 23rd Jan 2012. The numbers drawn were 2, 4, 13 and 23. There was no jackpot winner. The winners of the draw were Michael Masterson (Cornakelly), Rose Smith, Jamsie Martin and Michael Cadden. The seller's prize was won by Marian Maguire.

St. Francis - Dromard


St. Francis Minor club AGM takes place this Friday at 8.30pm in the clubhouse. Well done to our players Ronan Smith, Bryan McCormack, Robert Cooke, Peter Mimnagh and Niall Mc Manus who were involved in Moyne CS 2.7 to 5pt win over Tullamore College in the semi final of the North Leinster Senior league in St. Loman's, Mullingar on Wednesday last. They now advance to meet the winners of Clane or Dundalk in the final. Longford Coaching and Games Development are holding a Coaching and Games Conference on Saturday February 25th at the Clonguish GAA complex commencing at 10am and finishing with light lunch at 1pm. This conference is geared toward skill development of underage players varying in ages from 8 to 18 years. Workshops will be given by imminent GAA coaches such as Paudie Butler, Pat O'Shea, Phillip Kerr and Brendan Bolger. This will be free for all participants.
