SENIOR CO. LEAGUE FOOTBALL ROUND 4
NEWCASTLE WEST 1-4
FR. CASEY'S 0-13
The field was the venue on Thursday May 17th and referee Eamon Phelan had a busy hour keeping tabs on players (a few) who had issues with each other and whose fuses were a bit on the short side. Fortunately the majority were level headed and played away.
Whatever quality football was in the game was played by Fr. Casey's whose skill, movement, scoring, marking etc were superior to ours on the night and they fully deserved their win. Indeed if two goal attempts by them in the half, when they got in behind our cover, had found the target (as they probably should have) the score difference at full time would have been much greater. In contrast to Fr. Casey's pace and precision we were laboured and pedestrian, creating few scoring chances. That we were without our county men Stephen Kelly, Ian Corbett, Stephen Nix, Michael O'Keeffe, Seán Cronin didn't help of course. Anyway we were well beaten and that might serve as a wake-up call in advance of round 2 of the championship.
Team: John Joe Sheehy, Seán Neville, Darragh Woods, Michael Dowling, Seán McAuliffe, Seán Browne, Paul Hannon, Michael McMahon, Shay Lyons 1-1, Jamie Lee 0-1, Mike Quilligan 0-1, Gavin Riedy, Cian Sheehan 0-1, James Kelly, Thomas Quilligan. Subs: Niall Kelleher, Shane Kelly, Declan Brouder.

COUNTY SENIOR AND JUNIOR FOOTBALL
The club was well represented at the Gaelic Grounds last Sunday. Seán Browne, Stephen Nix, Michael O'Keeffe, Mike Quilligan, Seán Cronin, Jamie Lee, players, and Billy Lee, selector, were with the juniors defeated by Waterford, while Stephen Kelly 0-1 and Ian Corbett, players, Joe Lee, selector and Pa Keane, maor uisce were with Maurice Horan's team, winners over Waterford in the Senior Championship quarter final. All gave a good account of them-selves, and of course Liam Óg Aherne, former Newcastle West player, mentor and PRO was the man on the mike for Live 95FM. Many from the club were among the approx-imate 2,500 who saw Limerick well beaten in the junior game, but they put in a strong performance in the 2nd half of the senior game to win comfortably and qualify for a semi-final v Clare, also at the Gaelic Grounds.

JUNIOR B HURLING WEST LEAGUE ROUND 3
Newcastle West.........1-12
Tournafulla...............1-13
A cracking game of hurling was the general verdict on the contest at the field on Tuesday May 15th. We were behind all through the game 0-6 to 0-1, 0-8 to 0-4, 1-10 to 0-7 but kept trying and came, like all thoroughbreds, with a great burst down the finishing straight only to be pipped at the post. The defeat probably puts paid to our chances of making the play-offs, but it was satisfying to get a team out, though we are still minus a contingent who would make a difference, and played well.
Team: David Hurley, Shane Collins, Evan Egan, Ronan Kelleher, Tommy Kelleher, Niall Kelleher, James Hennessy, Thomas Quilligan, Karl Linehan 0-1, Declan Brouder, Willie Hurley, Cian Sheehan, Seanie Gleeson 0-1, Damian Garrihy, Aaron McCarthy 0-1. Subs: Dwayne Blenkensop 1-1, Andrew Curtin 0-3, Jack McCarthy, Jonathan Carey.
