Intermediates Started their Championship Campaign last Sunday when they took on Kildimio Pallaskenry in Claughan. The strong wind that was blowing was really going to a major factor on this game. Caherline won the toss and decided to play with the wind. From the throw in a tight and tough battle was evident. Gary Murphy got Caherline first score of the game after four minute and were making good use of the strong wind and further points from Andrew Brennan, Peter Tiernan and a free from Donnacha O' Loughlin put Caherline up 4 pts to 2 with 16 minutes gone. Kildimio then struck with a goal which put them in the lead 1-2 to 0-4, from here they pushed on and added two further points to take a three pt lead with over twenty minutes gone in the first half. Then great work by the midfield resulted in a free in and it was quickly taken by Gary Murphy who hit the ball to the on running Andrew Brennan and from 20 yards out hit the shot in low and stuck the ball in the back of the net to level the game. Both Teams then traded scores and as the ref blow for half time Caherline went in with the slighted of Leads 1-6 to 1-5.
Three changes were made in half time, Theo Butler, Hughie McGuire and Dean Power all started the second half. Now facing into the wind the lads put in a lot of work as Kildimio/Pallaskenry took full advantage of the strong wind and the soon had the match level and within five minutes of the second half had taken a two point lead, then Andrew Brennan scored a great point catching the ball from Midfield and running 30 yards to put over the bar. Kildimio they tagged on a few more points to put them up by four points a couple of Frees by Donnacha O'Loughlin brought the lead back to three pts 1-12 to 1-9 with Eleven mins left in the game it was still to play for. However the strong wind was really zapping the energy levels of the lads as the amount of work they put in the second half. Couple of frees from Kildimio and one from Play put them up by seven with six minutes left. One more free by Andrew Brennan brought it back to 6pts and with just a few minutes remaining the lads battled on and tried hard to get the goals to force a draw but unfrtunately a couple of goalmouth scrambles came to nothing for the lads and the ref blew for full time. It was Kildimio/Pallaskenrywho won on a scoreline of 1-16 to 1-10.
