County Senior Hurling Championship First Round 13/05/12.
All roads led to Cappamore on Sunday last as Ahane took on near neighbours Murroe/Boher in the first round of the county championship. This game took place with a gale force wind howling around the grounds. Murroe won the toss and elected to play with the wind. Murroe/Boher were first to score and were coming to grips with the conditions. Murroe/Boher went four points up before Ahane replied with a score. Murroe/Boher were on top and scored a goal and three points to lead at half time on a score line of Murroe/Boher 1-08 Ahane 0-5 with Ahane having the wind in the second half. The second half started with Ahane putting pressue on the Murroe/Boher back six. Murroe/Boher then stunned Ahane when they crept in for a goal and then tagged on four more points and led by 2-12 to 0-5 after 10 mins of second half. This left Ahane with a mountain to climb to salvage something from this match. This seemed to spur Ahane to hurl. Ahane then relied and scored 6 unanswered points and were coming to grips with the conditions. Ahane made a few positional switches and introduced young Killian Enright to corner forward and with his first touch had the ball in the net this left the score line of 2-12 to 1-11. Ahane continued to pile on the pressure but were guilty of giving away some silly frees to enabled Murroe/Boher to hold on to their lead with 10 minutes remaining. Ahane tagged on 3 more points but just could not get the vital scores to tie the match. Murroe/Boher ran out winners on a score line of 2-15 to 1-14. Ahane lined out as follows S O Connor,M Hayes, D Madden, J Dohney, C O Reilly, M Carr,(0-1) P Treacy, J Meskell,(0-4) G Aherne,(0-1) D Laing,(0-2) S Madden, N Moran,(0-3) D Morrissey, McDara Butler, R Ryan,(0-3) Subs used K Enright,(1-0).
