Kildimo-Pallaskenry GAA notes

Intermediate Hurling

Our Intermediate hurlers got off to a good start in Group 3 of the County Intermediate Hurling Championship with a 1-16 to 1-10 victory over Caherline at Claughaun's ground on Childers Road. We now top the group with Blackrock, who had a good win over Killeedy. Next up is Killeedy, venue and date as yet undecided.

Under-14 Football - Féile B Final

Kildimo-Pallaskenry 0-4 Claughaun 3-6

On Friday evening, in Croom, our Under-14 footballers turned out to play an excellent Claughaun side in the final of the Féile Peil na nÓg B competition. Most of the damage was done in the first half with Claughaun scoring a couple of points and a goal from a penalty in the 10th minute, the penalty being awarded for a foot block. They added another goal and 2 points before the break. Conor Staff opened our account with a well-taken point just before the half-time whistle was blown. Half-time score: 0-1 to 2-4.

Eoin Holland added a point for us just after half-time while Claughaun tacked on another 2 points and a goal. For the final ten minutes, we finally found our form and started to run at the Claughaun defence but our momentum was broken by some persistent fouling which earned Claughaun 2 yellow cards. Dylan Corrigan, who was playing with a hand injury, pointed 2 of the frees awarded - towards the end, we started going for goal from the frees, one or two of which would have put a different complexion on the game. But it was not to be and in the end we can have no complaints as we were beaten by a very good side who were
much superior to us on the day. It was disappointing for the lads to lose a second Féile final, having lost the hurling final a couple of weeks ago, but it is still an achievement of note to reach two finals.

Under-14 Hurling - All-County League

Ahane 3-9 Kildimo/Pallaskenry 2-3

Last Sunday, in windy Castleconnell, our Under-14 hurlers got a second bite on the cherry in the All-County Hurling League: having suffered a loss at home to Ahane on Wednesday, May 9th, final score 1-1 to 4-12, we were drawn to face the winners of Ahane v Crecora with a chance of qualifying for the semi-final. This turned out to be Ahane, again. The return of captain Kyle Hayes and Stephen O'Brien, both of whom were missing for the previous game, was welcome but, on the other hand, we were missing Darren Whelan, who suffered an injury in the Féile football final the previous Friday and Dylan Corrigan, also injured along with Sam Ross and Ger Daly. This meant that players had to be moved around into positions they weren't used to playing in but, as it turned out, these players excelled in their new positions - Lorcan O'Leary in midfield, Evan Carroll at centre back, Darragh O'Brien at wing back who came in to replace Akash Chaudri who was moved to full forward and Eoin Holland in goals.

The game got off to a brisk start with Ahane knocking over 2 points, one from a free. Lorcan O'Leary replied for Kildimo Pallaskenry with a goal at the other end to put is in the lead. This was short- lived however with Ahane coming back to score 2 points in succession. Kyle Hayes levelled the game again with a point from distance. It was nip-and-tuck to just before half-time with Ahane scoring points but Conor Staff and Stephen O'Brien levelling the score each time. With the score level at 0-6 to 1-3 and a minute to go to half-time, Ahane scored a goal to put them into the lead at the break.

We started to exert some pressure on Ahane in the second half, creating a lot more chances but it
was Ahane who opened the scoring with a point and a goal to stretch their lead to 7 points. A succession
of brilliant saves from Eoin Holland kept the score at that for a while. We put the Ahane defence under
a lot of pressure from then on but just couldn't get the ball into the net or over the bar. Kyle Hayes and
Lorcan O'Leary were outstanding at midfield as was Evan Carroll at centre back and Darragh O'Brien and
Kevin O'Shaughnessy at wing back. Akash Chaudri, in his new position at full forward, was a real thorn in the side of the Ahane defence - he scored a goal with about 5 minutes to go but it was disallowed for square ball. Meanwhile Ahane scored another 2 points, one from a free, and a goal to bring their tally to 3- 9. Lorcan O'Leary finally found the net for the second time with about a minute but it was too late to make a difference. Overall, the team can feel justifiably proud of their much-improved display- an eleven point difference on the previous Wednesday - we were very unlucky not to score more in the second half, hitting a number of wides, something you can't really afford to do against opposition as good as this Ahane team.

Team: Eoin Holland, Jamie Fitzgerald, Cathal O'Shaughnessy, Michael Nash, Kevin O'Shaughnessy, Evan Carroll, Darragh O'Brien, Kyle Hayes, Lorcan O'Leary, Darragh Mullane, Conor Staff, Stephen O'Brien, Dylan Finan, Akash Chaudri, Liam Maguire. Subs: Caolan Rushe, Naoise McGarrigle, Jack Ryan.

Under-12 Hurling

Our Under-12 hurlers continued their winning ways last Thursday, May 10th, with victories for both the A and B teams. The Under-12 A team played Monaleen 'A' in Kildimo, winning by 10-3 to 2-3 with scores from Shaun Barry, Pádraig Hartigan, Darragh Mills, Cathal Downes, Liam Wilson, and Kevin Walsh. We'd like to wish Mikey Hayes a speedy recovery from his injury. The Under-12 B team played Mungret 'B' away from home and won 4-2 to 1-1 with an excellent display of ground hurling and tight marking. Notable in this game were Micheál Cuddihy, Daniel Pearse, Jamie Galvin, Niall Wallace and Dallas and Logan Reid. Well done to the whole panel - keep up the hard work in training as it is paying off on the field of play.
