Under 14 Football Shield Div 2 Quarter Final
Deel Rangers 2-02 Pallaskenry 0-18
Our U 14 footballers made the long trek back to Castlemahon on Monday evening to take on Deel Rangers in the County Shield quarter final. For the first game in along time we were close to full strength with only Alan Ryan missing due to vacation.

Pallaskenry started slowly with many passes going astray. Once we settled after the first 5-7 minutes the runs of Ross Mann & Darren O'Connell & Ryan Kelly started to pay dividends. Ryan opened the scoring after one of his lazy solos through the Deel defence. 2 runs from Ross resulted in 2 frees which Darren easily converted. Ross was not to be left out scoring 2 points of his own before Deel replied with 2 of their own. Pallaskenry defence was well on top with Dave Clarke & Cian Moloney out in front of their men each time clearing the ball. Jason Barry was picking up a lot of breaks and setting up many attacks with good passing forward. 2 more points from Ross & Darren took us into the break leading 8 points to 2.

The second half started much the same with points from Darren and Karl Healy putting us further ahead. However, with us so far ahead, our defence went asleep for 5 minutes conceding firstly a penalty which was converted and then a second sloppy goal to put Deel back within 2 points of us. However this is as close as they came to us as we got back on top with Sean Holland and Richard Downes driving the team forward. We started to rattled off quick points to put a gap between us again. Good movement by Martin Neville and Carl up front created plenty of opportunities which set up mainly Ross & Darren who duly converted.  Final scores from Richard and Ross gave us a comfortable 18 points to 2-2 victory in the end.

Great credit to the team who showed character in weathering the storm when Deel scored the 2 goals to come within 2 points of us. Also to score 18 points in a game in no mean feat. Everyone played their part right through but special mention for Ross who contributed 9 of the 18 points. Semi-final up next Wednesday.
